Developed to follow the Sutton Hoo lyre in size and string spacings, these kits have the Lyre body routed and the outer profile shaped out of one piece of wood with the step to receive the soundboard.  

The maple soundboard  will need planing and sanding, gluing and to complete the Lyre you will need to do the final shaping of the string arm /taper and endpin.
The wood used on the soundboard is from my own stock and is quartersawn maple


The string spacings are taken from the sutton hoo,   with metal zither pins suppliued for ease of use and function.  (wooden pegs can be added later if desired)
The lyre is supplied with FC nylon strings,  nylon tailgut with dowel  tailpiece and a tuning key.
The instructions of how to complete the Lyre kit are available for free as a Youtube series:

(To complete the kit you will need  either a No.4 plane/sanding sticks to flatten and then graduate the fiinal shape the soundboard,   Varnish is not supplied, but the instruction leaflet will supply details. )
This kit is a perfect lyre for a first project and for customization, adding your own soundboard pins and mounts.

These modern alternative to plain nylon are very popular with harp and ukulele as they can bring out the sound more,   On lyres this is very effective on Plywood or thicker topped lyres that are otherwise dull with guitar nylon or quiet with gut.  Once settled in they are very stable in tuning,  impervious to moisture these strings are usual first choice on my Standard models Lyres and the kits.
Thickest string is 1.0mm Fluorocarbon, through to 0.54mm
enough for 2 sets of 6 strings, suitable for Sutton Hoo lyre models

gut tailpieceBoxwood Lyre bridge, this is my interpretation of the bone and amber bridges found in England and Scandinavia and continental Europe.   these are hand whitltled so are each unique while remaing faithful in design and spirit.

bridge Trossingen Lyre bridge,  I can supply this with the dimensions of the original, 88mmX27X12mm with 4mm string spacing or can supply it lower or higher without any string notches.
In maple but also available in willow on request.

gut tailpieceStandard tailpiece
This is the usual form of tailpiece which is similar to ones on bowed instruments.
I can make this is various hardwoods,  Boxwood, Figured Maple, English Yew, Cherry or other woods.
(yew wood default)  aprox 75mm by 32mm by 8mm.
There are 6 holes for the strings with  3mm synthetic Tailgut attached in the modern fashion for strength and longevity, gut is also available on request.  Red Synthetic gut standard, also available in white and yellow.

gut tailpiecenylon and Dowel tailpiece,  This is the simplist form of tailpiece now made with clear  fluorocarbon tailgut and a 8mm beechwood rod,

I can make this to a standard length or you can measure what size you want using a mockup with a piece of string.  Let me know if you would prefer real gut(extra £5).
